Sega is showing that they have balls. Super Monkey Balls in fact. For the first time ever, everyone’s favorite spherical monkey-based game is coming to PC. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD was originally released back on the Nintendo Wii way back in 2006, but now it’s being revamped for modern devices. Although it didn’t make our list of favorite speedruns at this year’s Summer Games Done Quick, it is absolutely worth seeing some of the insane runs people have in it.
In case you’ve never monkeyed around with one of the Super Monkey Ball games, the concept is simple. First, you choose a monkey that is locked in a clear ball. Then, you roll them around a perilous maze. You’ll need to avoid obstacles and make sure your monkey doesn’t fall to their doom. It’s easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master. Also, in case you need a story to get you jazzed about a game called Super Monkey Ball, you’re doing all this to help lead monkey AiAi and his friends find golden bananas that have been stolen by “the devious Space Alien Pirate King”.

This new release brings the re-release mainstay updates like improved graphics and new controls tailored to each platform it’s coming to. PC players can play using either mouse and keyboard or controller. But honestly, I’m holding out for Wiimote tilt control compatibility. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is also adding online leaderboards so you can finally find out who is top banana around here.
This release is also rolling in content. There are 100 single-player levels for you to roll your favorite primate through. Additionally, there are ten multi-player mini-games that might just be more fun than a barrel full of monkeys. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to Steam this winter.
