Rebellion Now Running Four Studios With TickTock Acquisition

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Rebellion, creators of the Sniper Elite games, is growing and expanding… again. As one of its first announcements of the new year, the company has acquired the Yorkshire based studio TickTock Games. The studio has a long history of games across PCs, consoles, and mobile devices. Some of its most recent work with Rebellion include Rogue Trooper Redux and porting Battlezone Gold Edition to the Nintendo Switch. TickTock will be become Rebellion North, making them the fourth game studio in Rebellions repertoire.

“Bringing more great people to the company is a great way to start 2019,” said Rebellion CEO and co-founder Jason Kingsley OBE in a statement. “The company continues to grow and it’s important we bring in the right people as part of that process. We’ve worked with the team at TickTock Games for a while now, and we know they’ll continue to prosper as Rebellion North.”

They’ve had quite the year in 2018. In addition to launching Strange Brigade and bringing Battlezone Gold Edition to the Nintendo Switch, the company converted a $100 million dollar facility into its new film studio. With the continued success of their Sniper Elite games, it’s no surprise that they’ve been able to expand so drastically.

Rebellion All Across The UK

With the addition of TickTock Games, there are now four different studios carrying the Rebellion name. They include Rebellion Liverpool, Rebellion Warwick, and the main Rebellion office. Apparently, we’ve got rebels just about everywhere. Although, in a less rebellious manner, the co-founder of Rebellion, Chris Kingsley, recently received an OBE from the Queen, which is a high honor in the UK. Nothing more rebellious than a gold star from the government.

An OBE is an abbreviation for Excellent Order of the British Empire. Which, basically equates to the Queen honoring you with a gold star for your work in any sort of business or public sector. This award was in regards to Kingsley’s work with independent developers during his now 25 years with Rebellion.

So all in all, big things are in store for the company. Personally, I’d love to see more games with mechanics like Sniper Elite. Or, Left For Dead style wave survival like Strange Brigade. I’m looking forward to whatever comes next, especially from Rebellion North.

What about you guys? Do you think this is a purely positive event? Or TickTock suddenly becoming part of the mass that is Rebellion a bit more ominous? Let us know in the comments down below!
