Blizzard Confirms More Diablo Announcements In 2019

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

In other news, the sun still rises in the east and sets in the west. That’s pretty much how it goes with the latest news for Blizzard’s action role-playing franchise, Diablo. Everyone knows there will be more announcements in store. Today, we’re simply getting confirmation that more Diablo games will be announced in 2019.

The news comes from Diablo III’s official forums in a topic titled “A Quick Word From Blizzard.” You might roll your eyes when you see that the main post is from November 7, just a few days after the announcement of Diablo: Immortal had a lot of fans irate. What you’d like to check out, though, is a comment from Community Manager Nevalistis which is much more recent:

We continue to read feedback and our internal discussions are ongoing. We have many plans for Diablo across multiple projects which we’ll be revealing over the course of the coming year. We are eager to share more about all of our projects, but some will have to wait as we prefer to show you, rather than tell you, about them. It’s going to take some time as we strive to meet your expectations, but now, more than ever, we are committed to delivering Diablo experiences the community can be proud of.

Diablo Immortal Diablo 2019 Blizzard Announcement

See You In Hell… In 2019

We’ve already known that Blizzard has a number of Diablo-related projects underway and they’d be announced in due time. The above simply serves to punctuate the fact that folks need to wait. The problem earlier this month was that they chose the wrong time to announce a mobile game, Diablo: Immortal, in BlizzCon while surrounded by hardcore PC fans. The backlash may have seemed like an overreaction, but the point was moot. People wanted something big and grand for Diablo, and playing it on your phones wasn’t it.

It’s also worth considering some news that has surfaced in light of that announcement. A particularly curious case involves 11 Blizzard employees who mentioned that Diablo IV would have been “Souls-like” in its presentation. That vision has since undergone a reboot back in 2016 and what we’ll be seeing in the future, “Codename: Fenris,” will be the dark, gritty, and visceral throwback to what the second game had been for long-time fans.

In any case, we’ll be keeping you updated with more developments. With the fiasco dying down, all that’s left is to look forward to what Blizzard’s Team 3 has in store for everyone in 2019. We’re sure that we all still have mobile phones by then, right Wyatt Cheng?
