Fortnite Adds Limited Time Gifting Option

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

Players of the popular Battle Royale game Fortnite have been asking for a “gifting feature” for a while, and it’s finally coming in via patch! But, there is a catch. This gifting feature will only be available to use for one week after the 6.31 update goes live. After that, it’s gone. Epic is likely just testing out this feature; they may intend to make it a permanent part of the game in the future. We hope they will, at least.

For those who want to try out this limited time feature, all you have to do is head into the Item Shop and pick out what you want to buy. There is now an option that says “Buy as a Gift”. You then get a pop-up menu of all your friends and can pick which one you want to send the gift to. When they log on next time, they will get a virtual gift box with your item inside.

Other Things To Note

In order to make sure this works properly, though, you have to make sure of a few things first. According to Epic, multi-factor authentication must be enabled on your account. If you don’t know how to do that, just head here for detailed instructions. Additionally, you can only give gifts to players whom you have been friends with for at least 48 hours. Players are also limited to sending just three gifts a day.

The gifts you purchase are, of course, non-refundable, and you can only gift items currently available in the Item Shop. If you don’t want to get any gifts at all, though, you can disable it in your account settings.

Epic is counting on player feedback to make this a success and probably hopes many players will take advantage of it during that week. This is also likely to drive up sales in the Item Shop. Hopefully, the boost to purchases won’t cause the Item Shop to crash. Only time will tell if Fortnite will keep this neat feature or not. In the meantime, let us know if you plan on trying it out.
