A week before the launch of Fallout 76, Bethesda released a massive patch that did some things. Many people were not happy about these things, namely because the update locked FPS and prevented FOV from going higher than 90. Naturally, people were quick to respond, begging the company for better options. In a recent blog post, Bethesda confirmed that several updates are on the way, one of which will be an FOV slider.
The slider will become available before the end of the year. “We know this is popular request for our PC players— look for an FOV slider soon,” wrote Bethesda. This should end one of the loudest complaints heard about Fallout 76 — among the many. Bethesda doesn’t say anything regarding FPS, which was locked to 63 in order to combat the “speedhacking” issue that came to light during the beta.
Mr. Fix-It
The other upcoming updates do look promising, however. On November 19, Bethesda will release a patch for some quality of life improvements. Expect some bug fixes for quests, as well as updates to the UI and camps. There are a few other updates to come before the end of the year. The stash limit will be increased. In the patch notes, Bethesda writes that the limit existed because of a stability issue that could happen when the game is tracking too many items. Push to talk is also coming, and should arrive within “the next few weeks.” There will also be ultrawide support, and apparently it’s already being tested and “looks awesome.”
Bethesda also teased some new content to come next year. More Vaults are opening, which should give players more to loot and explore. There will also be more options to improve CAMPS, as well as new ways to team up with players, along with improvements to faction-based PvP.
Our technical review for Fallout 76 is out, and you can read it here. In the review, our own Tyler Scott provides some remarks about the FOV and framerate issues. In fact, there’s actually plenty he says that doesn’t sound all that promising. These problems may be a thing of the past, however. Unfortunately, Fallout 76 seems to be more “potential” and less “playground” at the moment.
