It looks like fans of The Walking Dead can breathe a sigh of relief. Even though Telltale Games may have folded, partners have stepped in to see The Walking Dead: The Final Season reach its conclusion. That studio is Skybound Entertainment, helmed by none other than Robert Kirkman himself. Kirkman is, of course, the creator of the long-running zombie apocalypse comic book series. He’s also had a hand in crafting the hit TV show as well. Kirkman broke the announcement during The Walking Dead panel at New York Comic Con (NYCC), and additional tweets followed:
We’re SO happy to announce that we’ve reached a deal with @telltalegames that will allow Skybound to continue #TheWalkingDead: The Final Season! Let’s wrap up Clem’s story right! More details to come soon. pic.twitter.com/ShyREw65iq

Skybound, Kirkman, Walking Dead, Oh My!
Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment isn’t fairly well known among gamers. That’s because, more often than not, the company works with other dev teams to expand on existing titles or provide help when it comes to The Walking Dead. The company collaborated with Telltale for The Walking Dead‘s episodic games as well as Night School Studio — creators of Oxenfree — to craft additional digital content.
Skybound and Kirkman taking on the task of finishing The Final Season and Clementine’s story will prove to be both a challenge and an opportunity. They’ll also get a bit of help, naturally, from Telltale’s own team, or what remains of it. Telltale has, in the past month, laid off a majority of its staff. Most recently, it’s been reported that the company has also let go of some of their remaining skeleton crew. Also, according to Variety, Telltale’s CEO Pete Hawley noted that the company was still going through a lot. He plans on making an official statement in the next few days.
In any case, it’s all up to Kirkman, Skybound, and the remaining folks at Telltale to see Clementine’s story wrap up. The Walking Dead: The Final Season looks to be the final hurrah for the once-promising studio. For more coverage on Telltale’s rise and eventual fall, you can also check out our feature here.
