Get ready to get spooked because Supermassive Games, the brains behind the horror hit Until Dawn, will be bringing their craft for multiple platforms. The developer has just announced that they will be working alongside Bandai Namco to bring The Dark Pictures anthology — a series of games promoting a unique narrative style and branching storyline choices that would determine who lives and who dies. The first game that will be part of The Dark Pictures series is Man of Medan which will also be on PC. Check out the trailer below.

The SS Ourang Medan ghost ship
It looks like Man of Medan will be based on the tale of the SS Ourang Medan, a mysterious Dutch freighter which traversed the waters of the Southeast Asia in the late 1940s. Vessels near the area simply heard a distress call which stated the following:
“All officers including captain are dead, lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead.”
“I die.”
The distress call was followed by dead silence.
When an American merchant ship, the Silver Star, boarded the freighter, they saw nothing but horror. Everyone onboard the ship was dead — the captain, the officers, and the rest of the crew. Their faces were twisted in a death scream. Every human being aboard the SS Ourang Medan reportedly had the same expression of shock and terror in their faces the moment they died.
When the Silver Star’s sailors checked out the boiler room, they found nothing but dead bodies everywhere. According to rescuers, they felt an unholy chill in the air. Finally, when they attempted to tow the Ourang Medan, the vessel suddenly exploded and pieces sunk to the ocean.
The Dark Pictures Anthology – Man of Medan
Even until today, what happened on the Ourang Medan remains a mystery, and it looks like Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco are looking to dive further into the lore. Man of Medan will follow a group of intrepid explorers looking for salvage and treasure beneath the waves. Instead of riches, they’ll only find ghostly phantoms and murderous spirits. And yes, as you can see from the trailer above, there are also a few creepy scenes in a ship’s boiler room.
We don’t know too much yet about Man of Medan but, sufficed to say, we’re definitely looking forward to it. I personally am a fan of Until Dawn for the PS4 given my wife’s propensity for horror movies and games. The gameplay of Until Dawn was unique and offered a fresh take on the adventure-slash-horror genre. The decisions you made were highly important given that they affected the story as you progressed.
We can only hope that Man of Medan, which will be released in 2019, and the entirety of The Dark Pictures anthology live up to their true potential. Naturally, PC Invasion will keep you up to date with the scares and the news.
For now, check out the gameplay video below with all the jump scares and creepy moments. Let us know if you liked it or not. Please note that this is for the PS4 version of Man of Medan.
