It can often be the case that a great game is not necessarily a money maker for its developers (Beyond Good and Evil, Ico etc). Fortunately however Take Two has revealed that Borderlands 2 has shipped over 8.5 million copies since its release in September 2012. The information was released via Take-Two Interactive earnings call.
In its first few months, Borderlands 2 shipped 5 million copies which means that another 3.5 million was shipped over more than a year. Borderlands 2 was the anticipated sequel to the well received Borderlands that came out in 2009. It seems the amount of gun nuts has increased as Borderlands is fast becoming a top franchise amongst gamers. It may be a long way from outselling the likes of Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto but it’s good to see that Borderlands is holding its own.
Vita owners will be pleased to hear that Borderlands 2 is coming to the PS Vita later this year via developer Iron Galaxy Studios. Although there is no actual work starting on Borderlands 3, developers have said they have some idea where they series could go.
