Microsoft announced that they are skipping this years Gamescon and Tokyo Game Show, as they are focusing different ways of promoting themselves throughout the year.

Major Nelson said the following in a recent blog post:

“As you saw at E3, we have a solid line-up of games launching this holiday, along with other entertainment experiences. We’ve changed our approach a little, though. This year, Xbox will be focusing on smaller, more localized promotions and experiences for press, partners, retailers and customers around the world. Which means that as you might have seen on some of the news sites today, we won’t be taking part in Gamescon or Tokyo Game Show this year.

Both are still  important shows for the industry, and we do wish the organizers well.”

However this leaves the 3 new IP’s that Microsoft displayed at E3 with major event at which to be detailed properly, as the E3 showing only gave a vague hint as to what they may or may not involve.

Of course to not show up for Tokyo Game Show makes sense as Microsoft have not managed to find success in Japan over the whole generation, but passing on Gamescon will miss them a good window to better explain their new IP’s and their new project SmartGlass.
