Bethesda Softworks, A ZeniMax Media company, announced today that DOOM 3 BFG Edition will become available in the Autumn and boasts the original DOOM 3 and the Resurrection of Evil add-on pack, of which both have been completely remastered in HD for your pleasure!

Not only that, but also the game will now feature hours of new content in the form of seven new levels, that have been named ‘The Lost Mission’.

The game will boast many new features, aside from the expected trophies/achievements inclusion the game will feature improved lighting and many other enhancements. However one enhancement may actually put off PC customers, as the checkpoint system has been updated to make progression simpler. This may not be something that hardcore fans of the franchise are fond of, and the game has a big following of hardcore fans.

Technical Director at id Software, John Carmack said:

“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release. Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

But it doesn’t stop there, the game will also come packed with the original DOOM and DOOM 2, so if you ever missed out on any of the DOOM games, now is your chance to grab the whole lot at once.

People had previously speculated that DOOM 4 was actually cancelled, the latest news however clearly indicates that it’s likely still in development, since this would explain them feeling a need to offer the original trilogy to console owners.

And yes you heard that right! Console gamers means PS3 and 360. This will be the first time that a DOOM game has ever appeared on the Playstation 3. The game will of course also be released on the PC, but how it stacks up graphically against a modified DOOM 3 remains to be seen.
