Competitive Play is still high on the agenda and they are debating whether to put a public test realm live before it launches which would probably be a good idea. They do expect there to be iterations of the mode and Kaplan says it will probably take a few seasons to sort any issues.

New heroes are also being worked on and they have some near completion and a few prototype heroes currently in the works too. There’s still no release schedule for these however.

A new map is currently in their “production pipeline” and the art department is now working away on that following extensive testing in-house. Hopefully it won’t be too long until it appears.

Spectator/broadcast/observer functionality is also being worked on but Kaplan says, “these features are not being worked on heavily right now”.

Kaplan also mentions Brawls and they have some “awesome ideas” both from the team and the community but doesn’t share any more details. He also mentions they are looking at improving custom game functionality and even going as far to saying they are investigating “a server browser-type feature” but it’s a “ton of work” so it’s unlikely to appear any time soon.

Social features are being improved which will be added over time in upcoming patches and matchmaking is being constantly tweaked according to Kaplan, and of course, there’s the bug fixing.

It sounds like the Overwatch team have their hands full but at least Blizzard are working hard to improve the game in the weeks and months ahead. You can read the lengthy update here.
