Why should you buy it?
Thanks to Epic’s Unreal Engine 3, Infinity Blade is the best looking iOS game available right now. The premise (like most iOS games) is a simple one: battle your way through enemies in a bid to destroy the final boss and thus avenge your father’s death.
The game is designed in such a way that makes it almost impossible to complete on your first go around. Each time you die (believe us, you will die) you start up a new ‘Blood Line’ as the son of the character that was just killed off i.e. on your first Blood Line you’re out to avenge your father, on your second you’re out to avenge both your father and grand-father and so on and so on.
You start each new Blood Line with the same equipment and experience that you had when you were killed off in the one before, meaning you’re that bit stronger and that bit better equipped on each succesive attempt at revenge.
Gameplay is repetitive but provides just enough depth to keep you occupied for 10-minute bursts.  The touch screen controls allow you to use weapon and magical attacks – in conjunction with blocks, parrys and dodges – in an attempt to take your opponents down. As you move through the castle, dispatching enemies along the way, various treasures and money lay in wait for those with an eye for detail. Money can be spent in the store to upgrade weapons, armour and magic attacks. For those that can’t wait, you can upgrade your hero in a matter of moments by buying in-game money with real money through an in-game micro-transaction.
For the £1.79 asking price, Infinity Blade should be considered a definite purchase for iPhone/iPad users. It looks stunning, it’s fiendishly addictive and it squashes the myth that the iPhone is only good for super-casual fare like Cut the Rope and Angry Birds.
