Remember towards the end of last year when Funcom announced they’d be using the Conan license for a game? Well, they’ve now revealed that title to be Conan Exiles.
It’s an open-world, survival-based affair, which is said to be “first and foremost a multiplayer game” (though single player is mentioned as an option). Both public and private servers will be available. Early Access will be happening on PC in summer of this year, with a full launch “to follow”.
Conan Exiles players take the role of, well, exiles in Hyboria. You’ll be hunting for meat, growing crops, building shelters, constructing weapons, and all that other crafting business you tend to find in these sorts of games. It’s not all tending to your desert gardens though, because there’s supposedly some “savage, fast-paced combat” in there too.
“Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down,” says Funcom’s Joel Bylos. “Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever.”
A lamentation feature is, as yet, unconfirmed. Here’s a CG trailer and another pre-alpha shot.
