Hitman “adjusting things”, certain preorders being cancelled

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Something slightly odd is happening with the next game in the Hitman series, as people (particularly on PS4) are seeing their pre-orders cancelled.

A twitter post from the official Hitman account says not to worry about this, as the developer and/or publisher is “adjusting a few things”, and adds that the 11 March release date is still in place.

The notice sent to people through PlayStation (shown here on NeoGaf) expands on the “adjustment” a little bit, stating “the configuration of the product you pre-ordered has changed significantly.” Sadly, it doesn’t go into any more detail than that.

Hitman is experimenting with an usual ‘staggered release’ and pricing structure. The initial launch (available as a cheaper “intro pack”) will include three map locations, with three more planned for a later date. Purchasing at the $60 USD price point gives (eventual) access to everything.

This structure met with a certain amount of public resistance, especially from those who didn’t appreciate the “season pass” style ‘buy now, get stuff much later’ moving into full games. Whether the pre-order changes are anything to do with this unusual pricing and release structure isn’t yet known, but is proving to be the main source of speculation at present.

Presumably we’ll know more in, as the twitter post states, “a few days”.
