The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt dev diary looks at monsters

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

A new dev diary has been released for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this time looking at the monsters inhabiting the world.

The diary is keen on stressing three things. Firstly, monsters have to be vaguely “realistic”, fitting the laws of the game’s world and not appearing completely out-of-place. Secondly, monsters require different strategies and tactics; werewolves can be weakened by hurling bombs of silver powder at them, while harpies will circle and harass you, and need to be grounded before you can really fight them on your terms.

Third, and perhaps most important, is that there’s an actual ecosystem in place. Monsters will interact with each other and with NPCs, and your presence and decisions will impact what happens – even if you choose to do nothing and not get involved.

All of this sounds pretty fabulous, but then, most things do in pre-release videos. We’ll find out whether or not The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt lives up to these lofty expectations when it launches on 19 May.
