Dota 2’s first The International 5 tickets sell out in 6 minutes

The first wave of tickets for Dota 2‘s upcoming The International 5 tournament sold out in 6 minutes, says Valve, with the last tickets available tonight.

No word on how many tickets were up for grabs in the first wave, but the full complement were gone within 6 minutes. You’re not completely out of luck if you still want to go, mind you; the second (and final) wave will be going on sale at 10pm PDT today. Which, I think, is in about seven hours from the time of writing.

Tickets cost $99 USD each, with a limit on five per household, and the FAQ reckons you can grab them from here when the second wave goes live. Valve recommends creating an account on that site first so as not to waste any time when tickets go on sale, and considering how fast things sold out… yeah, you probably want to do that.

This is an “improvement” on last year, where every single ticket sold out within an hour. You’re not totally out of luck if you don’t get a ticket, though, as the entire event will be streamed online. Last year, it was viewed online by 20 million people.

The International 5 is a Dota 2 tournament that will take place at Seattle’s KeyArena between 3 August and 8 August. Chances are good that there’ll be a digital Compendium on sale once again, probably offering another bunch of digital rewards for those who purchase it, but there’s no word on that yet. Let’s see if this year’s prize pool tops last year’s $10 million USD, eh?
