Enigmatic business news from the Crytek quarter today; it emerges that the company were not bailed out of their financial hole by an investor, but by signing a mystery licensing deal. Develop shared some words with Crytek’s co-founder Faruk Yerli, who describes said licensing deal as “huge.”
Crytek went through some significant financial problems last year, during which they were unable to pay all of their members of staff and were forced to sell off the Crytek UK studio in Nottingham (along with the Homefront IP) to Deep Silver.
“A lot of people are under the impression we had to find a new investor or something, but that wasn’t the case. We made a licensing deal,” Crytek say.
The company apparently plans to release more details about what this deal actually is (and whom it’s with) at some future date. Which makes this a bit of an anti-climactic story, unless you enjoy speculating about business partnerships.
It is, at least, noted that Crytek had been working to secure this particular licensing deal for “a long time.”
