Microsoft Drops Games For Windows Live fees

Microsoft has confirmed its Games for Windows (GFW) LIVE service is now free.The service offers cross-platform gaming between PC and Xbox 360 (in supported games) and shared gamertags, friends lists, achievements and gamerscores with Xbox Live. Previously, users had to pay a monthly fee of $7.99 to gain access to GFW’s multiplayer features.Microsoft also announced the GFW LIVE service will soon sport a download service similar to Xbox Live Marketplace. It will provide users with access to downloadable demos, game content and trailers.
