Tacoma (Fullbright): 2 August

Steam

The game named after Washington State’s most famous urban port is going to be a “story exploration video game set 200,000 miles from Earth”. It’s by the creators of Gone Home so maybe expect the denizens of the Tacoma space station to be into really trendy music.

Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 (Capcom): 8 August

Mega Man 7, 8, 9 and 10 bundled together in one place.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Ninja Theory): 8 August

Third-person action game that draws on Celtic and Norse mythology in its trip through the underworld (and also maybe through mental illess).

Lawbreakers (Boss Key): 8 August

This gravity-defying team shooter from CliffyB’s new Boss Key Productions studio will be trying to take the multiplayer shooter crown in 2017.

Batman: The Enemy Within (Telltale): 8 August

The first of five new Batman episodes swoops down in August. Riddler is back, and Batman will also face trouble from a tenacious federal agent and the Joker.

Sine More EX (Grasshopper Manufacture): 8 August

Extended edition of the side-scrolling is out in August. Adds 16:9 aspect ratio option, English voiceovers, local co-op for story mode, and new versus modes.

Sudden Strike 4 (Kite Games): 11 August

The classic strategy series returns with 3 WWII campaigns, 100 units and over 20 missions. Commanders have also been added in this new game.

StarCraft:Remastered (Blizzard): 14 August

The return of the classic RTS, now in 4K with fancier graphics and modern online functionality.

Agents of Mayhem (Volition): 15 August

Seoul-based open world title from the makers of Saint’s Row. May also tie-in with Saint’s Row in some minor ways. Mostly, though, it’s about MAYHEM (Multinational Agency for Hunting Evil Masterminds) battling LEGION (League of Evil Gentlemen Intent on Obliterating Nations) for the soul/Seoul of the Earth.

Sonic Mania (SEGA): 15 August

A 2D collaboration between SEGA, Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games. Play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles on remixed and brand new levels.

Nidhogg 2 (Messhof): 15 August

The competitive sword-play title returns with new moves, new arenas, and a new art style.

The Escapists 2 (Team17): 22 August

Mouldy Toof return with the sequlel to their prison escape game and this time it comes with drop in/dro pout play for up to four players.

Quake Champions (id Software): 22 August in Early Access

After DOOM went down pretty well, what’s left of id Software are trying their hand at a new Quake. They’re promising to stay true to the speed of the original, and made positive noises about uncapped 120hz frame-rates and the like. However, Quake Champions will also have unique heroes in the modern way that all multiplayer shooters do. Is this a winning match? We’ll see.

F1 2017 (Codemasters): 25 August

The ever-present racing series will be on the grid in August this year.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm (Deck Nine): 31 August

Three episode prequel that is not being made by original developers Dontnod (though they ARE doing another Life is Strange game – it’s confusing, yes). Episode one is out in August.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock (Black Lab): 31 August

A 3D real-time-with-pause strategy game of fleet command, depicting the First Cylon War.
