Backers of Cloud Imperium’s Star Citizen can now tick off the $39 million funding goal from their charts as the game reaches this latest milestone in funding.
It’s taken just over two weeks to raise the next million and this time the UDS-2943-01-22 System has been unlocked.
UDS-2943-01-22 System – Breaking news: UEEastrophysicists based at the famed Klavs observatory station have utilized advanced telescopy and other remote sensing technologies to identify a truly unusual star system on the fringes of known space. The object, once thought to be a single massive star, is actually a trinary star consisting of two white dwarfs and an active pulsar orbiting one another. Because of the complex gravitic factors at work, it is now believed that a jump point leading to the system likely exists in or near explored human space. Beyond the bizarre stellar makeup, the composition of the system is all but unknown. Could planets exist in this carefully balanced web? What else might have been drawn there? One thing is certain: the first Citizen to travel to UDS-2943-01-22 will have one hell of a view!
Also included in this update is artwork from the UEE’s new Javelin class destroyer which looks damn impressive.
As the funding coasts toward $40 million, Cloud Imperium are now looking at future content updates and it’s time to head down to the planets as they address one of the more common feature requests, ground exploration and atmospheric combat.
Chris Roberts is keen to see this happen and wants to create a procedural generation system which will let them create planets for players to populate which can be expanded upon in the future with additional features. With that in mind they’re creating a Procedural Generation R&D Team to develop the technology to make it happen. It’s an ambitious goal but with the speed at which the game is being funded it’s fantastic news for anyone looking for a truly expansive Star Citizen experience.
Details of the $42 million funding goal will be revealed at a later date, and don’t forget, the Dogfighting Module is expected in April around the time of PAX East.
Incidentally, the IncGamers Organisation is now up and running so let us know if you’re interested in joining.
