All week analysts have been discussing the sales figures for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and today Blizzard revealed the first week sales figures.
Prior to the expansion launching in China, the Mists of Pandaria has sold 2.7 million copies. When the last expansion Cataclysm launched, Blizzard sold 3.3 million units on the first day to put these figures in perspective.
As expected, the subscriber numbers have seen a boost from 9.1 million in August this year back to above 10 million with the launch of MoP.
“With Mists of Pandaria, we set out to expand on the sense of fun and discovery that’s always been at the heart of World of Warcraft – in addition to adding a huge variety of new content and features to the game,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “It’s been gratifying to see the results of all of the work we put into this expansion and to hear all of the positive feedback from players so far.”
These sales figures are encouraging but they do show that there is a decline in players picking the expansion up on day of release. When all the totals of digital sales and retail sales are tallied up we’ll have a much better idea on how the game is faring.
