Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth adds a new Dynamic difficulty mode into the mix, but how exactly is this mode different from the rest? You can just stick to Easy or Normal if you’d like, but Dynamic will help keep things fresh during your adventure.
What is Dynamic Mode in FF7 Rebirth?
According to the in-game description, Dynamic mode adjusts enemy difficulty automatically based on your skill level and is recommended for players who “love the thrill of the fight.” That doesn’t say too much about the specifics of the mode, however.
In reality, Dynamic difficulty is much more straightforward. All it does is scale enemies to your party’s level, ensuring that you won’t overpower your foes if you grind too much. While you’ll still be able to quickly defeat early-game enemies if you return to the starting areas of the game with better gear, they’ll still put up a solid fight since they’ll be scaled up to match your power level.
It’s important to note that Dynamic mode isn’t Hard difficulty, though. Just like in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, the Hard difficulty setting is unlocked after your first playthrough. Dynamic is still more difficult than Normal, however, and the difficulty scaling ensures that every fight will push you harder than the last.
Which Difficulty Should You Choose?
Of the three difficulty modes available for your first playthrough of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are three wildly different experiences for different types of players. If you just want to see the story and don’t care too much about the game’s combat, then you should choose Easy mode. This will let you breeze through most battles while still maintaining the experience.

Most people should pick Normal difficulty since this is the intended experience. Fights will still be challenging, but you won’t get stuck on any bosses or tough battles. If you’re the type of player that would normally choose the hardest difficulty, then Dynamic mode is for you since the level scaling makes even normal enemies feel strong. Boss battles on Dynamic difficulty force you to use every aspect of Rebirth’s combat and study an enemy’s pressure points and weaknesses to succeed.
